But there is a secret; a secret between Aurelia the owner and Lucian her right hand man and the powers that keep the hotel running. It’s the major reason I really wanted to read Illuminate, the second being the synopsis.
But I found her personality to be refreshing.
There is of course the bad boy Lucian who I instantly fell in love with and so does Haven, she can help but wonder why her, she finds some answers and her heart breaks a little but she becomes strong and kind of falling for Lance who again is a hottie without even knowing it.
The pace is a bit slow but the story is good enough.

Illuminate is a story that involves a bunch of people note here: Instead, the story starts off with Haven and her friends being recruited by a powerful group of individuals, one who promise the young, naive group of teens everything they could ever want. For the record I really don’t like not liking a agretsi.
The way Lucian treated her didn’t hurt, either. I was able to imagine every pretty detail about the Lexington Hotel, from the chandelier to the different restaurants to the gallery, I was given a vivid picture and I was able to fully appreciate every detail. This book has an amazing world where illuminate people are being manipulated, love, lust, the hot bad boy, the cute good boy and TONS of drama and betrayal.
Yes, there’s a huge Capone component the hotel is where the Valentine’s Day Massacre took jlluminate, and there’s even a minor mention of Geraldo’s ill-fated opening of the hidden vault but the history is glossed over – it’s there for atmosphere and nothing more.
The other characters are kind of. Agresto, do I think there’s anything wrong with this? While I very much enjoyed the plot and how Agresti managed to get the kids to the hotel via perfect grades something I wish would happen to me! It kept me interested and it flowed. Almost a Stepford Wife honestly–he could do hair, clean, go shopping and still have time to chat with his friends at the local shop before going home to make a perfect three course meal. She is swept off her feet by the charming, swoon-worthy hot guy, but then she gets to know him and her feelings change.
Half this book is spent running errands or on training montages. Want to Read Currently Reading Read. I highly recommend Illuminate. It’s dark at some points, but funny at others, romantic, a few places for self-reflection, and overall–really cool.
The salary is good and the opportunity is promising and Haven snatches it up. Our muralist is gone and the mural isn’t finished? This story will suck you in and make you fall in love with Haven, Lance, Dante and even Lucian. For the most part, it moved along steadily, palpably dripping with anticipation.
