Hapgood – Plot Summary
Hapgood tells him that in reality the sealed once-only box did not contain the computer disk with Star Wars secrets. Because I’ve read too many mysteries, the plot and its solution are not particularly compelling to me–or perhaps it’s because the characters are not terribly compelling in themselves. It’s almost hard to remember what all the fuss was about — but the play depends on the very real horror of that time for some of its resonance which thus echoes only weakly for a contemporary audience.

Even after I’d stopped reading scripts by others, I’ve continued to read Stoppard. It becomes much clearer on a second read and I imagine would benefit from even a third and fourth pass through. Blair explains that if he had used Ridley’s photos, Ridley would have become suspicious when Kerner confessed that he Kerner had sent tsoppard.
A dizzying and dizzyingly intelligent pastiche of spies and spying, of the stories and lies they tell each other in their search for a devalued truth.

A production at the Birmingham Repertory theatre inwith Josie Lawrence as the spymistress, was admiringly received, but the version that has just opened at Hampstead theatre, directed by Howard Davies, is the first mainstream London revival since the premiere 27 years ago. The sexual politics of the play will also be intriguing to see in the historical rear view mirror.
He explains to Hapgood that he is certain that Ridley must be twins after seeing Wates diagram of Ridley’s movements at the changing room.
Ton writers have a strength, or two, or three, and you can’t ask them to be all the things that literature and drama give you as a whole. He recalls that in the changing room, Ridley intercepted the briefcase and delivered it to Hapgood. If you think bringing back her son will make you her typewalk away.
